At Blue Republic CrossFit, we believe that shepherding our athletes into a thriving family is far better than any globo-gym could hope to provide. It’s been said many ways: Nothing beats family. Blood is thicker than water. Brothers in Arms. The Sisterhood. There’s inherent power in associating with a pack of like-minded individuals; in no other fitness space, will you find an entire facility engineered to build, support and facilitate a family— 

...and nothing beats family. 

1. We foster an encouraging, supportive environment of work. 

We’ve ditched the weak moniker of “member” and have decided that the instant each human walks through the doors of Blue Republic, they are only referred to as an athlete. And every athlete shows up to go to work. Our athletes have access to one thing that globo-gyms all-too-often fail to provide: a road to fully-functional fitness with an extraordinary coaching staff and elite programming. This is the formula for results in our Blue Republic world: Eat right. Show up. Do the work. Your body will take care of the rest. 

2. The brilliance in CrossFit is CrossFit. 

Setting long-range, achievable goals and meeting each individual athlete at their current fitness levels, makes CrossFit accessible to everyone. And, as a functioning fitness system, CrossFit is a bonafide discipline used to log impressive results in athletes on every level. Not just reserved for the fitness-elite, it’s the accessibility of CrossFit to all ages and walks of life that garner the title, “Fittest on Earth”. Through the dedication and process of CrossFit, exponential gains in fitness are available for athletes of every age. 

3. The support of community. 

As anyone (who’s blessed enough to find one) will tell you: an accountability partner holds your feet to the fire. They’ll lift you when you’re hurt. Love you when you’re lost, and laugh—even if you’re bombing with that rad, new joke. And, If you’ve never had an accountability partner—brother, or sister, come on over—we’ll have a gym full of ‘em. 

4. The coaching and fitness options.  

From the NFL to the Navy SEALS, every organization worth its reputation employs a mentor, coach, or trainer to lead and develop their community into its highest potential. The Blue Republic Coaching Staff is trained to unlock every athlete’s potential—from Soccer Moms to Marines, and everything in between—with group classes, focused, small-group environments composed of up to 3 athletes, personal 1-on-1 training, or our skill-focused Blue Republic Barbell Club.

  Jay Bernardo, Head Coach, OPEX CCP L-1, CF-L1 Trainer, USAW Sports Performance Coach Level 1    J ay fell in love with fitness at the age 15. It was then that he first began to see the benefits of strength and conditioning and its carryover for sports performance. He grew up playing multiple sports, but eventually started playing football at college level, where he was a Team Captain and an All-American Running Back.  It was in college that he realized Strength and Conditioning was his passion. So, he searched for ways to turn that into a career. In late 2012, Jay decided to try CrossFit. It was the competitive side of the sport that fully immersed him back into the world that he had fallen in love with. It ignited a sense of camaraderie and belonging that had been missing from his life since his playing days. He received his CrossFit Level 1 Certification in 2014 and hasn't looked back since.  He believes that fitness is a metaphor for life and the pursuit of a healthy mind, body, and spirit are lifelong endeavors that all provide their own unique challenges.  "Fall down 7 times, stand up 8." - Japanese proverb   Outside of the gym, Jay enjoys spending time with family and friends.....and playing video games 😬

  George Vlahoylis, Coach   George has been a fitness enthusiast all his life. With a strong interest in various fields of health, George has earned a Bachelors Degree in Biology, a Masters in Psychology, and is currently working on becoming a licensed Chinese Medicine practitioner. While aspiring to incorporate the benefits of Chinese Medicine into orthopedics and sports, George aims to continue helping individuals from all fitness levels reach their fitness goals with safety, efficacy, and efficiency.  Born and raised in Greece, George loves coffee, sharing and experiencing food with friends, cooking, and at times, appreciates some good wine.

  Jamie Alexander, Owner, CF-L2 Trainer, Weightlifting - L1, Gymnastics - L1   Jamie Alexander, an untouchable force of charisma, effectively masks his nightly, superhuman crime-fighting as the owner and Grandmaster of the Whole Freakin’ Universe at  Blue Republic CrossFit . Along with his wife, Bronwen Alexander (Queen of All that’s Good and Heavy), Jamie has dedicated his career to the betterment of humanity, and with the birth of  Blue Republic CrossFit,  hopes to assist in the health and fitness of individuals through support, encouragement, knowledge, and skill.  Emphasizing fully-functional, constantly-varied movement and high intensity, Jamie’s clients and classes flourish in the often-neglected neurological components of fitness. By promoting positive changes in the nervous system, dramatic improvements in accuracy, balance, agility, and coordination fuse with physical gains in stamina, strength, and endurance. While submerged in an environment of positive reinforcement, fun, and encouragement, the athlete’s body breaks all thresholds, and responds with maximum results.  Currently pursuing his OPEX Coaching Certificate, Jamie enjoys lifting, soccer, eating, and crushing evil with his bare hands. In no particular order.  His staff continues to address him as “Your Utmost in Amazing Excellence” (although he’ll also answer to “bruh”, or “broskie”), and on warm summer nights can be seen wandering the streets of Santa Monica with Bronwen and their two lovable blue-nosed pitbulls, Zula and Bayo.

Leticia Becerra, General Manager, Jane of all Trades

Leti wasn’t always into fitness. Oh gosh no. As she says: “Old Leti is rolling around in her grave lol”. Overweight her whole life, she hit a “Eureka!” moment when she turned 30 after a decade of yo-yo dieting and failed attempts at getting fit. She finally said to herself “Do this right, or don’t do this at all.”

She has been documenting the final leg of her fitness journey since day one on Instagram (@leti_reconstructed) and after her one year fitversary, decided to make fitness her life and inspire people to believe in themselves too. To believe that YES, even YOU can do Crossfit too, dear scared reader. I was once in your shoes, too.

Leti has a degree in Business and Marketing from San Diego State University and has been a CrossFit athlete since 2015. Leo her three-legged dog is her life and enjoys mimosas from time to time.

Bronwen Alexander, Owner, CF-L2 Trainer, CF Weightlifting - L1, CF Gymnastics - L1, NPTI Certificate

Emerging from the lush and wild lands of South Africa, Bronwen Alexander chased her love of fitness from a young age, excelling in tennis and Equestrian Show-Jumping. In college, Bronwen geared her studies to receive a degree in Sports and Event Management, all while completing a personalized training and fitness program to achieve her FiTech Certification. Deciding to see the world, and contrary to popular belief, Bronwen actually jumped into the Atlantic Ocean off the tip of Cape Town, and swam 14,967 miles to the Pacific shores of Santa Monica without food or water. There, her husband Jamie, thinking she was a mermaid, scooped her off the sand, married her, and immediately promised her dinner. Instead, Bronwen graduated from the National Personal Training Institute in 2011, and went on to achieve CrossFit certifications in Weightlifting, Gymnastics and a station as a Level 2 CrossFit Trainer. Her excellence in the practical application of fitness and nutrition currently finds Bronwen instructing athletes at her very own Blue Republic CrossFit in Santa Monica, CA. 

Consistently proving to be an inspiration to her clients, Bronwen was honored with appearances as an elite fitness model in Reebok's CrossFit RealFlex Apparel campaign, and is currently working toward her Precision Nutrition Certification. 

She still swims back to South Africa once a year to visit her loving family, and vows to one day own a farm with 6 horses, where Jamie and her two giant pitbulls, Zula and Bayo, can finally run free.
